Description

The current version of I2P in FreeBSD ports is very old (0.8.7). I created an updated port, but I am not sure it's ready to be submitted yet.

<zzz> orion, afaik kytv already did all the work but it's on hold because the wrapper doesn't work, even after they claimed to fix it
<zzz> http://sourceforge.net/p/wrapper/bugs/286/
<zzz> http://sourceforge.net/p/wrapper/bugs/283/
<zzz> orion did you somehow work around 286?
<zzz> seems like you two should be working together on this
<orion> zzz: No, but that seems independent of my ticket.

related: #1118

<kytv> I took a stab (months ago) at updating the FreeBSD Port but never submitted it; partly because others expressed interest in doing it and partly because I don't use FreeBSD outside of VMs. If a knowledgeable BSD user jumps on it =>>> WIN
<orion> kytv: See ticket.
<kytv> RE: The tanuki FreeBSD 10 bug: I don't have the knowlede to fix that.
<kytv> I saw the ticket before I ran out earlier...but I'll reload in case it's been updated.
<orion> 1150?
<kytv> if that's the freebsd port one, yes
<orion> ok
<kytv> <orion> zzz: No, but that seems independent of my ticket. <-- very much so (though, of course, we would want the wrapper port to be updated once a freebsd 10 capable wrapper is available, but that's a separate from the port)
<kytv> ah...you're doing it much differently than I did (but similarly to the AUR package). I used "ant preppkg-unix" and installed the files that I wanted.
<kytv> ...and used the wrapper from the port.
<kytv> but then again, your update mimics the original.
<orion> kytv: I2P is very hard to package.
<orion> The wrapper script isn't very good either.
<orion> Ideally it would be nice to have something simple like `i2prouter start -u <user> -c /home/user/.i2p'
<orion> But I saw that as too hard, and I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
<orion> (I have other I2P-related stuff that needs attention)
<orion> Nevertheless, I thought that the little work I do could be useful to you, which is why I made the ticket.
<orion> did do*

Now at 0.9.16 which is old but not ancient: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=i2p&stype=all

We do not have the resources or expertise to maintain this ourselves, but are happy to offer assistance to any downstream maintainer if needed.
