Cleaning up 'Supported Applications' doc

Description (last modified by jaruga)

There's a few things listed on that have either been discontinued or succeeded and should be marked as such or removed. I picked out a handful that I could see off the top:

'General purpose socket utilities' header:

  1. netcat > netcat-openbsd

This one is fairly obvious, netcat is heinously out-of-date. I recently spent a fair amount of time swapping it out of various Tor docs, would be worth doing so here as well.

  1. tsocks > (remove?)

Incredibly depreciated. Not sure if torsocks can be modified to get the same intended result, or if it's even necessary given i2pd can perform SOCKS functionality.

'IRC clients' header:

  1. XChat > Hexchat

Long dead, should be replaced with HexChat?.

There were a few typographical things I noticed as well, but they're unrelated and can be reviewed later.

Thank you for the ticket, jaruga.

  • Commented out for now. While both i2p and i2pd have socks proxy functionality, this tool seems to be for the purposes of forcing a program's traffic to be sent through a SOCKS proxy when that program does not have any SOCKS proxy functionality of its own. From what I can tell, torsocks can be modified to use a different SOCKS proxy, e.g. i2p's, but I have not tested this myself so I am not adding that in yet.

  • Section title changed to HexChat
  • Link changed to
  • Section text changed to
Cross-platform graphical IRC client based on XChat.

Leaving out torsocks as SOCKS proxy usage isn't recommended - applications used in such a manner may leak information that compromises anonymity.

CLosing this ticket for now. Thanks once again.
