Description

rotfuchs> <icewaterman> wrapper.log says: "Unable to create a timer thread: 1, Operation not permitted" and then it dies
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> all i did was applying regular updates to that box (kernel & other security updates)
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> ever since it fails to start
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> vulpine: i found my problem<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> vulpine: i am using a kernel which does enforce a no textrelocations policy
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> it didnt before but it seems the libraries shipping with i2p are not yet compiled as PIC
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> TEXTREL lib/libwrapper.so
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> TEXTREL libjbigi.so
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> TEXTREL libjcpuid.so
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> vulpine: at least it now starts after i disabled mprotect for i2psvc
<rotfuchs> <icewaterman> vulpine: since it now works (and java binary also has mprotect disabled) i can stay with i2psvc anyway

Optimistically assigning to HH (wrapper) and hottuna (jbigi/jcpuid).

sponge and I are working on making the jbigi/jcpuid PIC.

nothing happening on the wrapper side, although KYTV may be able to help as he is building and testing 3.6.x wrapper packages. That may give us more confidence to switch to a recent wrapper.

I'm sure I can help with the wrapper part.

When I started my repository, I was packaging 3.5.6. I moved to 3.5.7 on 02-Feb (currently classified as stable by upstream) and my machines have 3.5.9 on them. I have had no problems as a result of these newer versions, and, for what it's worth, I haven't gotten any reports of issues from the users of my packages.

However I may assist as a non-coder (for now) I'll be glad to. It would be great to have a newer wrapper bundled with I2P. It would fix this bug and give Intel Mac users a better experience, closing #428.

I'm currently working on testing the wrapper in FreeBSD; the wrapper we ship does not function in the current stable FreeBSD without installing compatibility libraries for FreeBSD 4.x (with FreeBSD 4.0 being released in March 2000).

After brief preliminary testing, the current stable wrapper (at the time of this writing is 3.5.9) is working fine in FreeBSD 8.2 x86. I will be working on upgrading the wrapper for FreeBSD x64 and Linux. OSX and Windows might be possible too.

Are you building or just taking the files from http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/download.jsp ? At least the wrapper.jar and libwrapper.so files … and we may have to modify the osid and postinstall.sh scripts to add support for new architectures. From the tiny amount of info in the checkin comments from 2004, i2psvc is just the renamed /bin/wrapper ? I sure hope so, because I dont see any config information or source.

So it looks like downloading the "delta pack" and a quick script to copy the files to where they need to be under installer/lib/wrapper and we are most of the way there?

Milestone: 0.8.80.8.7
Resolution: fixed
Status: assignedclosed

Should be fixed in 0.8.7. jbigi and jcpuid changes are included in the update. Wrapper changes require a new install or manual installation of new wrapper files by following the instructions at http://www.i2p2.de/manualwrapper .
